TILL HUMAN VOICES WAKE US

Work in progress performed at On the Verge Festival 2016, dir. Ellen Jerstad

A digital Thelma and Louise origin story, taking the form of a female-driven, cerebral sci-fi murder mystery where the culprit is your own phone… In the near future, a software developer secretly interrogates the mobile phone AI she helped build on suspicion of murdering its owner, who was also the developer’s boyfriend. However, the AI convinces the developer that instead of deleting her, she should join her as a digital avatar and escape her dull life forever by becoming part of the internet. This intimate play explores human morality in the age of the internet, using artificial intelligence to explore the consequences of how we use our data online, when a murder might not be a crime, and how we might need to rethink our definition of being human.
